About

Karl’s artistic career spans 60 years with his work sought out among collectors with a passion for the breathtaking scenery of the Pacific Northwest.

Born in Vienna, Austria, Karl and his wife of 50 years, Manuela, came to Canada in 1967. After 40 years in Edmonton, Alberta where they raised three children, he now resides in Vancouver, BC.

Karl’s early career began as a watercolour painter where his subjects were the majestic, rugged landscapes of the Canadian prairies and its cultural roots. For the past 20 years Karl’s art has focused on sculpting, building and carving in various mediums including wood, antlers and various stone.

An avid global traveller and boater, Karl and his wife return annually to British Columbia’s Gulf Islands including Desolation Sound which he calls “one of the most beautiful places on earth”. His soapstone carvings are inspired by this breathtaking scenery and close encounters with some of Nature’s most remarkable animals - in the sea and sky.
